Prealgebra Class

Recommended for Grade 5 students who want to strengthen essential math foundations while advancing into middle school–level math covering Common Core Math Grade 5-6 and the Art of Problem Solving (AoPS) Prealgebra curriculum.

Build a solid foundation to excel on Grade 5 math placement tests for middle school math pathway assessment (Grade 5 January to April depending on school districts).
Prepare for the Grade 6 advanced math track while smoothly adapting to the middle school learning environment.
Well-performing students will be ready to join the AMC 8 Preparation Class after completing Prealgebra.

University of California Admission Requirement:

3 years required; 4 years recommended. Algebra I & Geometry (from SCSD and BRSSD middle schools) are compliant.
Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB or Calculus BC exam, or score of 4 or 5 on the AP Precalculus exam.

UC Berkeley Engineering Admission: To thrive academically, engineering students must have a strong aptitude for mathematics and science. Common ways in which applicants demonstrate this aptitude include:

Sustained academic achievement, especially in math and science
Four years of mathematics, especially including calculus
At least three years of laboratory science, especially if it includes physics when available at the applicant’s home institution.
